Message from the Desk of the Dean
Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. – Malcolm X
I am very pleased to say this message on behalf of the Faculty of Arts and Culture of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka in the capacity of the Dean.
The Faculty of Arts & Culture of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka was one of the first faculties of the University, established in 1986, and at present sixteen subjects are being offered under 11 Departments and two Disciplines.
The aim of the Faculty is to produce scholars who shall contribute good first for her/his fellow human who is near her/him, then to make the nation and the globe as whole a good, healthy, peaceful, and productive one. From a certificate course to a Doctor of Philosophy Degree this aim becomes the final one. By giving love and humanity to the mankind would only bring a “good citizen,” as Martin Luther King Jr. said “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
The thirty year civil war had changes the people of the region very much, mainly the region where the Eastern University, Sri Lanka situated. This directly links the community where its shape has been damaged by many means. Thus, the role of the academia comes in to re-shape the community a good shaped one. My fellow academics do it with all their efforts and make its their prime concern, though it is not a small task, but they do it to their maximum. Hence the students populous.
Finally, education must re-shape a man into a human. This ultimate motto that is engraved in each and every one who is admitted into the Faculty, whether a staff or a students, and the Faculty will lead to make this motto a true one.

Dean/Faculty of Arts & Culture
