A series of academic speech hosted with the Department of Tamil Studies and Thanjavur Tamil University

A series of academic speech hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Culture of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Department of Tamil Studies, Faculty of Arts and Culture of the Eastern University and Thanjavur Tamil University was held at Nalliah Auditorium, Eastern University on Wednesday 01. 11.2023.

Thanjavur Tamil University organized to strengthen the academic relations with the Eastern University of Sri Lanka as the first event of this series of speech between the Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University and the Dean of Vazhar Tamil Field, Thanjavur Tamil university, Registrar, Professors and Academics who were visiting from the university took place at 9.00 am. During this time, Eastern University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vallipuram Kanakasingham clarified the matters about the Eastern University and discussed the signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two universities.

Following that, Dr. V. Gunapalasingham, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Culture, presided over the event at Nalliah Auditorium and gave the inaugural speech.

This lecture series focused on "Tamil Sri Lankan Art and Cultural Traditions," and it started with a talk by Professor S. Santhirasegaram, Head of the Department of Tamil Studies, Eastern University. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Thiyagarajan, the registrar of the university, while the introductory speech was given by Dr. R. Kurinchivendan, the Dean of the Vazhar Tamil field of Thanjavur Tamil University.

Dr. P. Ilaiyapplai on the subject of “Humanity in Poems”, Dr. R. Inthu on the topic “Tamil thōthu Thanināyagam Adikalār”, Dr. C. Veeramani on the topic “Humanity in Literature” by presenting short stories of writer Imaiyam delivered lectures. In addition, Prof. R. Venkatesan on the subject of “Mahābharata written by the Bilars (Tribals)”, Dr. Seeman Ilayaraja on the topic of “Folklore Deity Litigation” and PhD reader Mr. K. Sivashankar on the topic of “Worship Dramatic Art in Sri Lanka” also spoke.

Dr. T. Meharajah, a lecturer in the Department of Tamil Studies, offered the vote of gratitude. A large number of professors, heads of departments, Academics and students of the Eastern University attended the event.
