Mr. S. Suthakaran

Mr. S. Suthakaran is a Lecturer (Probationary) attached to the Department of Geography, Eastern University, Sri Lanka, where he has been since May 2021. He received his MSc in Disaster Management from the Post Graduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lank in 2018, P G. Dip in Geo Informatics from the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2011, and a BA degree in Geography from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2005. Suthakaran worked as an expert and consultant in Geographic Information Systems in various fields, including Environmental Remediation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Disaster Exposure Mapping, Water Resource Management, Catchment Management Plan, Demining, Village Development Plan, Integrated Rural Accessibility Planning and Information Management for more than 14 years and obtained a lot of precious experience and useful working skills in these areas.  His contributions focused on processing spatial data using open source applications which allowed him to qualify for number of awards and scholarships to represent in international conferences. He received the opportunity to share his experience in this area in Japan, Nepal, and Bangladesh with professional audiences. His academic contributions cover a range of fields, including Exposure Mapping, Data Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Water Resource Management, Land use classification and Application of Open Source Geospatial Technology. He has published a number of journal articles, abstracts, and full papers.
