The 5th Annual Research Session of the Faculty of Arts and Culture

The Fifth Research Session of the Faculty of Arts and Culture at Eastern University, presided over by Dean Dr. V. Gunapalasingam, took place on November 21, 2023, at Nallaiya Hall.

The distinguished presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vallipuram Kanagasingam as the chief guest added significance to the event. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. N. Selvakkumaran, an eminent academic with a notable background as the former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo, a member of the Public Service Commission, and presently a professor in the Faculty of Law at Sri Lanka Institute of Technology.

Convened by Mr. S. Chandrakumar, Senior Lecturer in Fine Arts, the fifth annual conference was orchestrated seamlessly by the diligent coordination committee of the lab. The inaugural function welcomed esteemed guests, including the Deans of the University, the Director of Swami Vibulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies, the Librarian, Heads of Departments, Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Students, and Researchers.

Subsequent to the inauguration, a workshop unfolded in the Department of English's building block, centered around the theme, "Equality, Reconciliation, and Equity through Education in Pluralistic Societies." Numerous researchers presented papers, sharing their findings across diverse platforms.

An impressive 51 domestic and foreign researchers submitted research papers, with a noteworthy inclusion of recently graduated students who assumed the role of researchers, presenting fresh insights for collective discussion.

The conference unfolded in two sessions, with a focus on 12 themes, executed in an elegant and sophisticated manner. The laboratory setting facilitated engaging discussions as professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, and students shared their ideas, contributing to the academic discourse. The event underscored the university's commitment to scholarly excellence and collaborative research endeavors.
